Welcome to the Swiss Proteomics Society 2002 Congress on Applied Proteomics
The emphasis of the conference will be placed on several important applications of Proteomics, ranging from the basics of protein characterisation to the role of proteomic research in cancer case studies. Indeed, just eight years after the term was first coined by Wilkins, "Proteomics" has already attained a remarkable level of maturity and is coming very close to offering biologically relevant results that will find their application in phenomena of human health. Every pharmaceutical company is actively seeking new drugs through the understanding of biological pathways that have been identified by the proteomic initiative.
As this work is carried out, fundamental questions are raised and addressed daily by both industrial and academic researchers concerning sample collection, separation science, imaging, mass spectrometry, and bioinformatics.
The SPS'02 Congress on Applied Proteomics will provide the occasion to bring yourself up to date on the following issues in proteomic science:
- What should we expect from the proteome?
- What are the ethical issues in human sample collection?
- High throughput in Proteomics: is this really already operative?
- Sample preparation: How to avoid systematic artefacts in the analysis?
- Protein analysis: Is there a "unique pathway?"
The Congress will provide the best answers currently available to these fundamental questions, presented by the scientists who have created and continue to define the field of Proteomics. The SPS'02 Congress on Applied Proteomics offers a unique opportunity for those who are considering an entry into this field of explosive growth, as well as for those who will come to share their latest results and expertise with their community, right here in Lausanne, the heart of the ProteomeValley!
