Scope

Over the last 10 years, the basis for Proteomics research has been established through the rapid development of a number of key technologies and methodologies. The challenge ahead of us now lies in the "Integration of proteomic technologies to fully understand complex animal, vegetal and microbial biological systems".
Understan
ding of these systems would require that research efforts go beyond the traditional proteomic approaches and focus on areas such as:

  • Signaling cascades
  • Protein-protein interactions
  • Analysis and function of post-translational modifications
  • Antibodies and proteomics

For these research efforts to be successful, one would need to pay attention to such issues as:

  • Sample handling
  • Experimental design
  • Development and use of biomarkers
  • PTM databases

Presentations by an international panel of speakers will address these and other important issues, in order to give a clear picture of the current status and future directions of proteomics research in academia and the pharma industry.

Being organised in Basel, a city at the crossroads of countries and cultures, with the active collaboration of the local Pharma industry and academic institutions, the SPS '03 Congress promisses to be a landmark in the development of the proteomics community in Switzerland and in Europe, at large.
